Built by people who care about libraries
PLAID3 was created by a team with deep roots in library services and civic technology. We believe public libraries can be a trustworthy learning source for AI-curious community members.
A small team. A clear mission.
PLAID3 is the "Public Library AI Demonstrations, Discoveries, Discussions" project, founded by The Galecia Group library technology consulting firm. Free library staff training materials can be found on the PLAID3 website.
We're not a big company. We're a focused team that believes strongly in the library's role as a civic institution — and in the power of that institution to help people navigate a rapidly changing information landscape.
"Libraries have always played a critical role in helping communities adopt new information technologies. AI promises to be our greatest challenge so far."— The PLAID3 Team
AI literacy belongs in the library
Libraries have always been trusted institutions. They're where communities go to learn, ask questions, and access resources they couldn't otherwise afford. That hasn't changed, but the resources have.
AI is increasingly central to how people find jobs, access services, understand health information, and navigate civic life. Libraries are uniquely positioned to be the place where communities learn to use AI well: safely, critically, and with privacy intact.
The challenge is that most AI tools weren't designed for the library context. They assume internet-savvy users, tolerate broad data collection, and don't come with any curriculum. PLAID3.hub is built differently.
We designed for the patron who has never touched AI before. We designed for the librarian who doesn't have hours to spend training staff on a new system. We designed for the board member who needs to understand — and defend — the decision to bring AI into the library.
A project of The Galecia Group
PLAID3.hub is built and maintained by The Galecia Group, a library technology consulting firm with deep roots in public library services and civic technology.
The Galecia Group has worked with public libraries across the country on technology strategy, staff training, and community-centered digital services. PLAID3 grew out of that work — a recognition that AI literacy is the next frontier for libraries to lead on, and that libraries needed a tool designed specifically for their context and values.
